Xiaomi has launched its first 200MP smartphone, the 12T Pro. With a price of 800 euros, it is not one of the most expensive Android smartphones on the market, despite the completely new camera. DxOMark has now examined how good the camera and the display really are.
Xiaomi 12T Pro: 200 MP camera tested
With the 12T Pro, Xiaomi has built its own Android smartphone with a 200 MP camera for the first time. This should ensure good image quality. DxOMark has examined whether this is really true. There, the smartphone comes in 18th place with 129 points. In pretty much every subcategory, the Xiaomi phone did well, but not very well. It achieves 130 points in pure image quality. The best value is 150 points. The zoom is underwhelming due to the missing telephoto lens. There are only 101 points. The best smartphone achieved 151 points. The video quality is 134 points. The record here is 149 points.
Basically, DxOMark is satisfied with the quality of the 200 MP camera of the Xiaomi 12T Pro. It’s not enough for the top. For example, the limited dynamic range, problems with exposure and adjustment of the white balance are criticized. But for the asking price, the quality is okay. (Source: DxOMark).
Our first impression of the Xiaomi 12T Pro:
I am currently testing the Xiaomi 12T Pro for GIGA. To give you a small impression: The criticism of the camera is understandable. Sure, the pictures taken are usually not bad, but Xiaomi still suffers from the processing, i.e. the automatic processing after the “snap” – Google, Huawei, Apple and Samsung, and most recently Vivo, are clearly ahead. And the 200MP doesn’t seem to do much of an advantage either, other than to impress on the spec sheet. More on this soon in the GIGA test.
The Xiaomi 12T Pro display is too dark
While the 200 MP camera performs quite well in DxOMark, the testers were much more annoyed by the display there. It ensures a smooth display thanks to the 120 Hz mode, but should be too dark to be read comfortably in sunlight. The display of the Xiaomi cell phone is also far too dark for HDR content. In addition, the colors should change unfavorably when exposed to light. The Xiaomi 12T Pro only achieved 37th place in the display test with 127 points. It even ranks behind the predecessor Xiaomi 11T and the cheaper version Xiaomi 12T. Maybe DxOMark caught a Monday device here.
