Xiaomi 13 Ultra: the photophone co-developed with Leica arrives in April

One ad chases the other at Xiaomi. The Chinese giant has just launched its Redmi Note 12 series in Europe, after that of its 13 series in February. But its catalog will not be limited to these – already numerous – devices, since a new terminal will join them very soon. It will be the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, the officialization of which is scheduled for April.

The information is not speculation, since it is Xiaomi’s partner who delivers it. THE Leica photography specialist, at work on the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro, in fact indicates that not only will the presentation take place this month, but specifies that the 13 Ultra will not be reserved for the Chinese market. “It will be launched internationally”assures the firm, corroborating the words of the usual leakers, convinced that the smartphone would not follow in the footsteps of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, a Chinese exclusive. It was also the first smartphone to benefit from Leica certification.

What to expect from this Xiaomi 13 Ultra? Few elements have leaked about it, but it should be in line with the 12S Ultra. The latter was entitled to an Amoled screen (LTPO, 1440 x 3200 pixels) and was powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, which should give way to a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 this year. We can hope that its IP68 certification will be maintained, and that its battery (4860 mAh for the 12S Ultra) will be compatible with fast charging at at least 67 W.

A smartphone expected for its photo performance

However, it is in the field of photography that the device is eagerly awaited, since the Ultra models are the flagships of Xiaomi. There should be at least three photo modules, with a 1-inch type sensor officiating alongside a wide-angle lens that could offer a variable aperture. “We believe the perfect lens should have a large aperture, compact size and high photo performance throughout its entire focal range”, says Leica, promising perfect homogeneity between wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle and telephoto. The German evokes the integration of a Summicron optic “the most perfect ever created in the world of mobile imaging”, meaning that its collaboration with Xiaomi will not only be software, but also hardware in the case of the 13 Ultra. Something to look forward to the passage of such a smartphone in our photo lab!
