Xiaomi caresses pet owners with its latest surveillance camera

The C500 Pro recently completed Xiaomi’s surveillance camera offering. As its name indicates, this new model is positioned above the C400 which until now constituted the Chinese giant’s most high-end interior model, and several improvements are of course worth noting. These concern not only the equipment, but also the functionalities while the price remains quite attractive; well below 100 euros.

5 MP sensor and animal detection

Xiaomi’s new indoor surveillance camera first of all introduces a new sensor. With a resolution of 5 Mpx, it can produce images up to 2960 x 1666 pixels, a small increase from the 2560 x 1440 pixels of the 4 Mpx sensor of the C400. On the optical side, Xiaomi does not specify the field of vision, but mentions a double motorization allowing the camera to be rotated and tilted remotely, respectively 360° and 114°.

The C500 Pro of course also has an automatic tracking function when it detects a person, and Xiaomi adds a pet detection function. To see if the tracking will also work with this one, since it is not specified. These detection options in any case work locally thanks to on-board artificial intelligence, and infrared vision allows you to benefit from them day and night.

In addition to detecting movements, the C500 Pro promises to detect loud noises and baby cries thanks to its microphone, but this should above all make it possible to hear what is happening on the recordings that it is possible to store on a microSD card or in the (paid) Xiaomi cloud. Live, a speaker also allows you to react and discuss. Finally, note that the camera is compatible with 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi for remote access.

The Xiaomi C500 Pro is already commercially available, at the recommended retail price of €69.99.
