Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro scooter: a timid evolution, except on the price side

Xiaomi unveils its new electric scooter, called Electric Scooter 4 Pro. Taking advantage here and there of improvements in comfort or performance, it is experiencing above all a spectacular increase in its price.

Xiaomi presented in France its new electric scooter, the Electric Scooter 4 Pro. This is placed above the Scooter 3, released a few months ago, and takes the place of the Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2, which will soon celebrate its two years. The 4 Pro takes up the already well-known general lines of the Chinese manufacturer’s electric scooters, incorporates some improvements and sees its selling price take off to reach 800 €. A very clear rise compared to a Pro 2 recently marketed at 549 €.

To justify such an increase, we expected a revised and corrected design of a scooter that has changed very little since its launch about five years ago. This is not the case: the recipe is generally unchanged, the Electric Scooter 4 Pro incorporating most of the elements that make up its predecessors. No improvement in folding capacities or additional shock absorbers: the Xiaomi 4 Pro plays the card of sobriety, to our great displeasure. Nevertheless, the Chinese manufacturer now offers a machine whose handlebars are placed higher to better adapt to the European consumer, according to the brand. The deck also gains in width (+1.9 cm), as does the handlebar (+5.4 cm). The rise in the latter should have a positive impact on stability.

10-inch wheels welcome

Among the welcome new features, we note the transition to 10-inch wheels, compared to 8 on previous models. What offer both more comfort and precision in the trajectories, while delivering better road holding. The choice of inflatable tires remains appropriate, the machine being devoid of suspensions. Xiaomi has opted for tubeless assembly and now uses a gel that allows small punctures to be repaired without having to intervene. Good news, as the tires of the brand’s scooters were known for their fragility. Many users then opted for rubber tires to protect themselves from punctures, at the cost of reduced comfort.

The motor of the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro is placed in the 10-inch front wheel.

The Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro also incorporates a new, more powerful engine. The latter reaches 700 W peak, against 600 W for the Pro 2. What offer a little more in terms of responsiveness, and especially better face the ribs. The motor retains its position in the front wheel of the machine. The Chinese scooter obviously complies with the requirements of French law and does not exceed 25 km/h. The battery retains a capacity of 446 Wh for an advertised 45 km range. A promise that the Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2 already made which, during our test, had not been able to drive more than 32 km. A new magnetic charging port is offered for easier connection of the scooter to its charging block.

Heavier, bulkier

On the braking side, it is always a duo composed of a disc brake and a magnetic brake that operates. The first uses the double-pad caliper of the Scooter 3. With the latter, we weren’t particularly impressed by the leap forward. Braking nevertheless remains a satisfactory point for Xiaomi scooters in general.

The Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 displays known lines.

Xiaomi also claims to have made improvements to the display on the screen of its 4 Pro. The few images that we have seen are more of a slight restyling than a major overhaul. The essential information remains present and the connectivity with the Xiaomi application offers a good dose of additional features.

Unfortunately, the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro remains a bulky model, even when folded. It will be even less practical to slip into the trunk of a car or take on public transport. Above all, these new features are paid for on the scale since the little new one displays 17.5 kg, or 3.3 kg more than the Pro 2. Nevertheless, the Xiaomi 4 Pro is now able to accommodate pilots weighing up to 120 kg , against 100 kg previously.

Xiaomi Electric Scotter 4 Pro electric scooter price

The price of the Xiaomi scooter is significantly higher than the previous model.

As mentioned above, the most significant novelty remains the price at which the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro will be marketed. A price of 799 € which propels the machine into a new category, in which players like E-Twow and its GT Premium SE or Pure and its Air Pro LR are already well positioned. For Xiaomi, this move upmarket is nevertheless quite logical. After having attracted a very large proportion of buyers of a first electric scooter, it needs a serious argument to retain those who aspire to higher-end equipment and more serious services for riding every day. You will have to wait until mid-August to be able to afford the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro. We hope to be able to offer you a complete test very soon.
