So the rumors are confirmed. Leica, the German optician so far very close to Huawei, has teamed up with rival Xiaomi. The latter makes it official by sharing an unequivocal visual: a new era is dawning for the manufacturer of smartphones.

Literally by the way. On its new poster, Xiaomi writes in black and white that the merger between the company and Leica marks a ” decisive moment in his story. And the result of this union is expected this summer.

A first smartphone expected this summer

After Sharp, Panasonic and Huawei, here is Leica becoming a partner of Xiaomi. Nothing surprising for the latter who, like many others, seeks to outdo himself in photography.

Moreover, the identity of the first smartphone resulting from the collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica leaves little to the imagination. Unsurprisingly, it should be the Xiaomi 12 Ultra, the obvious successor to the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra which, although excellent in photos, could have taken advantage of the optician’s expertise to offer even more attractive results.

According to rumor and early renders, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will be equipped with four cameras, among which is a state-of-the-art 50-megapixel Sony IMX800 sensor. It should also offer “zoom” capabilities of up to 120x. Moreover, its photo block suggests that there will also be other somewhat baroque sensors.

Expected next July (probably first in China), the Xiaomi 12 Ultra should act as the figurehead for the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 unveiled last Friday.
