Xiaomi smartphones are extremely popular. There is an incredibly large selection and a lot of hardware for mostly little money. When it comes to the software, on the other hand, you have to make small compromises. The Chinese manufacturer only provides selected models with software updates for many years, while the situation with the inexpensive models is rather unclear.

These Xiaomi smartphones no longer receive Android updates

Samsung is unbeaten when it comes to the update policy for Android smartphones. The company provides all of its phones with security updates and many new Android versions for four or five years. Xiaomi is a little more cautious. Only selected top smartphones are supplied for four years. Other models usually have updates every two years. Now a list has emerged that includes all smartphones from Xiaomi lists who should no longer receive Android updates (Source: TechGoing).

In addition to smartphones, older Xiaomi fitness trackers are no longer supported. This includes all models up to and including the Xiaomi Band 4. If you want to buy a new fitness tracker, you should at least buy the Xiaomi Band 5 (check it out at Amazon).

With the Xiaomi 12 Pro you get many years of Android updates:

Xiaomi improves update supply

Even if Xiaomi is far from distributing software updates as reliably as Samsung, update guarantees are now given, at least for selected devices. Something is also happening with the Chinese manufacturer. Anyone who owns one of the decommissioned smartphones should looking for a new model in the foreseeable future. Especially if you do security-related things like online banking with it, you shouldn’t be on the go for too long with an outdated Android version.
