A new tablet appears in the catalog of Xiaomi, in China for the moment. With its large format, the Pad 5 Pro 12.4 aims to appeal to professionals with the help of functions dedicated to them.
Xiaomi did not just formalize its new folding smartphone, the Mix Fold 2, on the other side of the globe. Also in China, the telephony giant has formalized a version of its Pad 5, the first tablet officially marketed in Europe, and a very successful model. It was flanked by a Pad 5 Pro (unavailable on the Old Continent), and a Pad 5 Pro 12.4 now accompanies it. If its announcement only concerns the Chinese market for the time being, we can hope to find it on French shelves by the end of the year… unless Xiaomi reserves its forces for a future Pad 6.
The device ranks among the large tablets. The Pad 5 Pro 12.4 is indeed equipped with a 12.4-inch screen displaying 2560 x 1600 pixels (120 Hz), whose technology Xiaomi is careful not to specify: it is undoubtedly, and at like the Pad 5, an IPS panel supporting HDR10 and Dolby Vision standards. Behind it hides a rather high-end paraphernalia, since we find a Snapdragon 870 chip (and no longer 860) with 6 to 12 GB of RAM, but also a 10,000 mAh battery compatible with fast charging at 67W.
Xiaomi is targeting with its Pad 5 Pro 12.4 professionals who regularly use videoconferencing. The tablet is thus equipped with a 20 megapixel front photo module promising good image quality, in addition to a duo of 50 and 2 megapixel sensors located on the back of the device. The manufacturer mentions, among the functions included in the tablet, its ability to transcribe in writing a conference involving several participants. The interface of the tablet, Mi Pad 13, also gives pride of place to multi-windowing, to simplify the work of the most demanding. Everything is nevertheless compact (284.96 x 185.23 x 6.66 mm) and relatively light (620 g), therefore easily transportable.
For the moment, we will be content with the price of the Pad 5 Pro 12.4 in China, which is 2,999 yuan (about €435 excluding tax) in the 6/128 GB version, 3,499 yuan (about €510 excluding tax) in 8/256 GB and at 4199 yuan (around €610 excluding VAT) in 12/512 GB. Like the Pad 5, it is compatible with various accessories, including a keyboard.
