TABLET

With the Pad 6S Pro, Xiaomi has introduced a new 12.4-inch tablet. We show where the most important differences to the Xiaomi Pad 6 lie.

  • The Pad 6S Pro is the latest premium tablet from Xiaomi.
  • The predecessor only came onto the market in the regular version in Germany, but not the Pro version.
  • In this article we will explain to you what the differences between the two tablet models are.

Xiaomi has updated its tablet series. The newly introduced Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro is actually the successor model to the Pad 6 Pro – but it was never released in Germany. Only the regular Xiaomi Pad 6 made it onto the market in this country.

In this comparison we will therefore look at the differences between the Pad 6 and Pad 6S Pro. In terms of price, the two models are worlds apart. While the Pad 6 is now available from around 295 euros (with 128 gigabytes of storage space), the Pad 6S Pro comes onto the market from 700 euros.

display

The most obvious difference concerns the size of the two models. The Xiaomi Pad 6 has an 11-inch display, while the Pad 6S Pro has a significantly larger screen at 12.4 inches.

There are also differences in the resolution of the displays. The Pad 6 has a resolution of 2,880 x 1,800 pixels, the Pad 6S Pro has a resolution of 3,048 x 2,032 pixels. Both screens work at 144 Hertz, but the Pad 6S Pro’s 900 nits is significantly brighter than the Pad 6’s 550 nits. Both panels use LCD technology.

Front and main camera

There are also major differences in the camera system. The Xiaomi Pad 6 has a dual main camera with 50 and 2 megapixel resolution, the front camera records with 8 megapixels.

In the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro, the manufacturer has now installed a main camera with 50 and 2 megapixels, and the front camera also has a significantly higher resolution of 32 megapixels.

battery pack

Due to the size alone, there are clear differences in the capacity of the installed batteries. The Pro version of the Pad 6S has a 10,000 milliamp hour battery that can be charged with up to 120 watts. The Xiaomi Pad 6 has a capacity of 8,840 milliamp hours, and quick charging is possible with a maximum of 33 watts.

Processor and graphics chip

The manufacturer has already equipped its Pad 6 with a fast Snapdragon 870. The eight-core processor clocks at a maximum of 3.1 gigahertz. However, the Pad 6S Pro uses the even more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which also achieves a top clock speed of 3.2 gigahertz. There are also differences in the installed graphics chip. The older model uses an Adreno 650 from Qualcomm, the new Pro version uses the Adreno 740.

Connectivity and sound

The use of newer radio technologies is also unsurprising. The Xiaomi Pad 6 offers WLAN 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 on the connection side. The Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro now has WLAN 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 on board, but the USB standard remains the same.

If you want to watch films and series on the tablet, you will probably get better sound with the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro. At least the new model now has a total of six speakers installed, whereas the Xiaomi Pad 6 “only” has four speakers. Both tablets, however, have a total of four microphones installed.

Explanations

The Xiaomi Pad 6 is available in a total of three versions. The 128 gigabyte version is available with 6 or 8 gigabytes of RAM. The larger 256 gigabyte version is only available with 8 gigabytes.

The Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro comes in two versions, one with 256 and one with 512 gigabytes of storage space. On the RAM side, both variants have 8 gigabytes.

Price

There are big differences in price between the two tablet models. Since the Xiaomi Pad 6 has been available since summer 2023, prices have now also fallen here. Below you will find the current market prices (as of February 2024) for the Xiaomi Pad 6 and those for the Xiaomi Pad 6S at the market launch.

Conclusion

With a price point of just under 300 euros, with the Xiaomi Pad you still get a fast tablet with good performance and a very decent display. If you don’t want to do demanding tasks such as video editing on your device, you can confidently use this model. This model is also sufficient for surfing, playing or school or university.

The Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro, on the other hand, initially offers a larger and, above all, significantly brighter display, which also makes it easier to use in bright surroundings. In terms of performance, it is also better positioned and is also suitable for more performance-intensive tasks. Last but not least, there is also a new input pen and a keyboard case with touchpad for this model, which makes it easier to use productively.
