MOBILE PHONE COMPARISON

The Redmi Note 12 models from Xiaomi have finally appeared in Germany. But how do Redmi Note 12, 12 5G, 12 Pro and 12 Pro+ differ from each other?

In China, Xiaomi presented the Redmi Note 12, the successor to the popular Redmi Note 11 series, back in October 2022. It consists of four models: the Redmi Note 12, the Redmi Note 12 Pro, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ and the Redmi Note 12 Explorer Edition.

Since March 23, the Redmi Note 12 has been available in stores worldwide. In this country, Xiaomi only offers the Redmi Note 12, 12 5G, 12 Pro and 12 Pro+ models. How do these differ from each other?

display and size

The Redmi Note 12 (5G) is slightly larger than the other two models at 165.9 x 76.2 x 8 millimeters (mm). These are 162.9mm long and 76mm wide, while the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ is 9mm, 1.1mm thicker than the regular Redmi Note 12 Pro.

The display is 6.67 inches in all models and offers a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hertz. Like the Pro models, the Redmi Note 12 is equipped with an OLED panel. In addition to Dolby Vision and HDR10+, the Note Pro smartphones have a fingerprint sensor in the display. With the Note 12 and Note 12 5G, this is installed on the side of the power switch.

Performance

The Redmi Note 12 5G is equipped with a last-generation Qualcomm processor. While the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 can deliver solid performance, it looks rather dated compared to newer chipsets. The Pro and Pro+, on the other hand, have a lot of power under the hood with the MediaTek Dimensity 1080. The processor runs at a frequency of 2.6 gigahertz. The Redmi Note 12 itself uses the new Snapdragon 685, for which we don’t have any comparative values yet.

The Pro smartphones are also ahead when it comes to the graphics unit. These both have a Mali-G68 MC4 GPU, while the Note 12 (5G) has to be satisfied with an Adreno 619 and 610, respectively.

camera

When it comes to the camera, the Note 12 Pro and especially the Note 12 Pro+ can also score plus points. The setup of the 12 Pro consists of a 50-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2-megapixel macro camera. In addition, video recordings with a resolution of 4K at 30 FPS are possible. The 12 Pro+ has the same secondary cameras, but the main camera has 200 megapixels and can take correspondingly good pictures.

The triple camera of the Redmi Note 12 only achieves 1080p at 30 FPS. Here, the main camera is 50 megapixels and is supported by a 2 megapixel depth sensor and an 8 megapixel ultra wide-angle camera. A similar setup can be found in the 5G model, only the main camera has a resolution of 48 megapixels.

battery and charging speed

All four models have a battery with a capacity of 5,000 mAh, with charging taking place at different speeds. The Pro+ version can be charged with up to 120 watts, whereas the Pro “only” has 67 watts. After all, the normal Note 12 and the Note 12 5G can also be charged with 33 watts.

Prices

The pricing of the Note 12 range is pretty fair, especially considering the specs. The normal model costs 229.90 euros in Germany with 4 gigabytes of RAM and 64 GB of storage space. The Note 12 5G starts at 299 euros. The Note 12 Pro costs 399.90 euros with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space, while you pay 499.90 euros for the Pro+ with 256 GB and 8 GB of RAM.

Conclusion

If you are looking for an inexpensive Android smartphone in the mid-range price range, then it might be worth going back to the Note 12 series. There are currently not many comparable smartphones with good specifications, especially in this price category.

Turbo model in China

In addition to the models presented, a turbo model of the Redmi 12 will soon appear in China. There is no more official information about the smartphone yet, but it should probably be even better than previous cell phones. As soon as there is official data on the device, we will supplement the comparison accordingly.
