In France, illiteracy affects millions of people. According to Digital Barometer 202135% of French people are in great difficulty with digital technology.

Emmaus Connect is a branch of the Emmaus Movement that works alongside people with social and digital difficulties or in a situation of illiteracy. For almost ten years, it has supported the most isolated people by offering them access to means of connection to the Internet, to inexpensive refurbished equipment, but also to free training in digital tools.

Xiaomi and Emmaüs hand in hand for digital access

To provide digital and IT equipment (smartphone, computer, tablets, etc.) at affordable prices, Emmaus Connect relies, among other things, on donations. The association also favors partnerships with manufacturers. In this sense, it had already entered into a partnership with Realme last year. In 2022, it is Xiaomi’s turn to commit to greater accessibility of digital tools to everyone, alongside Emmaüs Connect.

The brand has thus announced that it will donate more than 500 smartphones for the whole of 2022. 100 devices have already been distributed in March.

Xiaomi France has chosen to join the association to improve digital accessibility in the country. The partnership is also in line with Xiaomi’s CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) policy, which aims in particular to commit to environmental protection or to ensure data security and accessibility.

“It is essential that manufacturers commit to digital inclusion. This donation from Xiaomi is an important first step to massively equip the most isolated”, explains Tom-Louis Teboul, development manager at Emmaüs Connect. Pierre-Alain Houard, marketing director of Xiaomi France, underlines for his part that “this operation makes all the more sense in a pandemic context which further accentuates inequalities, particularly among the young generation.”.

With Emmaüs Connect, Xiaomi thus becomes the largest donor smartphone manufacturer.
