As Apple outsources a growing portion of its productioniPhone in India, the Chinese Xiaomi would have made arrangements to have its future televisions assembled in Pakistan.

If the Chinese industry remains absolutely central for the manufacture of electronic devices, the trend is to relocate to other countries. Against the background of political tensions between Washington and Beijing, this rule applies to the American giants (like Apple, which is gradually producing more iPhones in India, or even Google)… but obviously also for certain Chinese firms.

Xiaomi’s future TVs assembled in Pakistan?

According to information from the Pakistan Observe, the Chinese Xiaomi would indeed have made arrangements to start assembling its future televisions in Pakistan. In detail, the firm would use the company Air Link Communication Ltd., which is currently one of the largest distributors, manufacturers and retailers of smartphones in Pakistan. The group would also have completed its preparations: it would be ready to assemble televisions on behalf of Xiaomi from January 2024.

In an interview recently granted to an American specialized media, Muzzaffar Hayat Piracha, director of Air Link Communication, admitted to being ready for this new activity. The interested party explained among other things that the investments required were modest, since the assembly lines he already had for smartphones are close to those necessary for the assembly of televisions.

A conducive environment…

Profitable for about six months, Air Link Communication seems to be benefiting from an economic context that is a little more favorable to Pakistani companies. As pointed out by Pakistan ObservePakistan recently saw its foreign exchange reserves increase after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved a bailout package the country needed.

This bailout deal was, however, approved on the condition that the Pakistani federal government lift the restrictions imposed until then on imports. A measure which has relieved local companies and which, visibly, is pushing certain foreign brands to consider Pakistan as a favorable place of production for their products.
