The augmented reality sector is eyeing Xiaomi and the Chinese brand clearly intends to position itself in the market. The Mijia Glasses Camera come into play, the manufacturer’s augmented reality glasses.

As usual with the Chinese giant, the product offers excellent value for money with a Snapdragon 8 chip and x15 hybrid zoom on the program.

Promising augmented reality glasses

Xiaomi has announced the Mijia Glasses Camera, glasses for augmented reality. A very different product from the concept proposed last year with a more flashy and less minimalist design, similar to that of Google Glass. The device will feature an 8-core Snapdragon SoC with 3GB of RAM, coupled with 32GB of internal storage and a 1020mAh battery. A 10 W fast charging technology will also allow you to recover 80% of autonomy in just 30 minutes. If they seem impressive at first glance, these smart glasses weigh only one hundred grams.

On the right, they will be equipped with a Sony MicroLED screen to display augmented reality content. The display will boast a pixel density of 3,281 ppi and peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. The MicroLED technology should guarantee a lifespan of 100,000 hours. On the left, an on-board camera with a dual photo sensor comprising a 50-megapixel main lens and an 8-megapixel periscopic telephoto lens with optical stabilization (OIS). A 5x optical or 15x hybrid zoom is also included.

A real-time translator

Users will therefore be able to take photos and videos and then automatically transfer them to their smartphones. This therefore requires that the augmented reality glasses be connected via a dedicated application. To prevent malicious use, the Xiaomi Mijia Glasses Camera will emit an LED light indicating when a photo is taken or if the wearer is filming. The Chinese brand also ensures that the smart glasses can film continuously for 100 minutes on a single charge. Unlike Meta’s Ray-Ban Stories, Xiaomi’s connected glasses are not a simple accessory equipped with a camera.

They are indeed able to help users in their daily tasks. Their flagship feature: a real-time translation tool capable of instantly translating elements written in a foreign language. This applies to road signs, subway displays or even restaurant menus. Only English and Chinese are supported for the moment. These smart glasses are also equipped with a display of GPS instructions in AR showing the direction to take with an arrow and a system of recognition of plants and animals.

For now, the Mijia Glasses Camera are only reserved for the Chinese market through a crowdfunding program. Xiaomi’s augmented reality glasses will be offered for 2,699 yuan, or around 390 euros. The Chinese giant, however, did not mention any global release.
