After a slight setback, Xiaomi formalized its new series of smartphones stamped 13 on Sunday. Models equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and Leica cameras, but not only: they inaugurate the MiUI 14 interface, based on Android 13. This will not be the prerogative of the 13 Pro and 13 Ultra models: it will be deployed via an update on the Xiaomi 12 range by the beginning of 2023, as well as on the Pad 5 tablet in the spring. .

Various features are included in this new interface which, in aesthetic terms, follows in the wake of MiUI 13. Xiaomi thus indicates that the size of unused application icons will be automatically reduced to avoid cluttering the screen unnecessarily. Similarly, duplicate files will automatically be combined into a single item, and notifications that are always displayed can be easily reduced. The objective is therefore to declutter the interface of devices under MiUI 14. However, this freed up space will not remain empty: we note the possibility of transforming icons into widgets… and that of affording a small virtual companion, in the form of a cactus or a dog, whose appearance will change throughout the day.

Xiaomi also promises various optimizations, its interface gaining in lightness. The brand thus evokes a fluidity increase of 60% on a 12S Ultra smartphone taking advantage of its new software version in comparison with the old one. The manufacturer also announces that it will allow third-party applications to consume less energy: if this concerns above all titles dedicated to the Chinese market, we note that the very popular TikTok is one of the optimized apps.

For the rest, Xiaomi emphasizes the security of user data. It evokes the ability of devices under MiUI 14 to recognize, locally, text in images, as well as to instantly translate videos (from English to Chinese). We will have to wait until the deployment of the update outside the Chinese borders to know the specificities internationally.
