The Chinese Xiaomi intends to catch up with its competitor Samsung in terms of update policy.
While the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is starting to get talked about, the manufacturer is meanwhile studying the possibility of supplying its smartphones more regularly with new updates.
Towards security patches for five years for Xiaomi?
As reported by our colleagues from SamMobile, Xiaomi has announced that the Redmi K60 Extreme Edition, which boasts revolutionary screen protection, will receive four Android operating system updates and five years of security patches. In other words, this means that the device will enjoy a software update policy relatively similar to most smartphones from Samsung with its Galaxy range. On the South Korean side, this strategy has already proven itself, the manufacturer having fully fulfilled its promises in terms of firmware support over several years.
For now, however, we do not know if this new policy will also apply to other Xiaomi smartphones or if it will remain exclusive to the Redmi K60 Extreme Edition. In addition, we can legitimately wonder if this announcement will only concern the Chinese market or if Xiaomi will intend to do the same with its devices marketed in the rest of the world. Unfortunately, only time will tell…
