Xiaomi’s next watch will have what it takes to compete with the Galaxy Watch and Pixel Watch

Xiaomi has confirmed that its next smartwatch, the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro, will feature Wear OS.

Wear OS may well be the system for connected watches developed by Google, but it has a much harder time attracting third-party manufacturers than Android for smartphones. Currently, only a handful of manufacturers, including Google and Samsung, offer connected watches based on the Google system.

However, this will change next week with the arrival of a major player in Wear OS: Xiaomi. The Chinese manufacturer has announced on Twitter that its next connected watch, the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro, will indeed be equipped with the OS based on Android. It will thus join the Galaxy Watch 6 from Samsung, the Pixel Watch from Google or the Ticwatch Pro 5 from Mobvoi.

As a reminder, the main interest of Wear OS is to allow users to install third-party applications on their connected watch, with a particularly rich application base that has little to envy of Apple Watches. On the other hand, models running Wear OS generally tend to offer much less battery life. This is the reason why many manufacturers, like OnePlus or Xiaomi until now, relied on lighter and less resource-intensive systems like RTOS or ZeppOS.

A watch about which we already know a lot

The Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro has already been the subject of several leaks in recent months. At the beginning of September, the site MySmartPrice revealed the particularly careful design, with leather strap, double button on the right side and crown. In June, the XiaomiUI site revealed that the manufacturer was working on a 4G compatible watch, a first for an exciting Xiaomi and which would position it against the Pixel Watch, Apple Watch or Galaxy Watch.

In terms of specifications, we expect a 1.43-inch diameter screen, a Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. The watch would also be equipped with an electrocardiogram and a heart rate monitor.

We will know more about the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro from September 26, during a launch planned in Germany. For the moment, we still do not know at what price the watch will be sold.
