Xiaomi’s Smart Doorbell 3 soon available in France

The Smart Doorbell 3 will be the first Xiaomi doorbell officially available in France. Connected and equipped with a 3 megapixel sensor, it will respond to visitors from a smartphone, with video feedback as a bonus.

Xiaomi continues to expand its catalog. After indoor surveillance cameras, the firm launched a first outdoor model last year, the Mi Wireless Outdoor Security Camera. It is now a Xiaomi doorbell that is about to make its debut in France. As its name suggests, the Smart Doorbell 3 is not the very first model of the brand, but the previous ones did not have the honor of being released in France. It will therefore be the first to reach us by official means and not only by import, with the compatibility problems that this may imply.

Wireless installation and chime provided

The Smart Doorbell 3 is a relatively compact doorbell, especially when compared to other battery-powered models like Google’s Nest Doorbell or Ring’s Video Doorbell 4. Like them, the Xiaomi doorbell incorporates a battery for simplified installation. Its 5200 mAh capacity should allow it to operate for almost five months – 4.8 exactly, according to Xiaomi – without a power source, a USB-C port being provided to recharge it. The Smart Doorbell 3 is also compatible with 2.4 GHz wifi: it can thus access the Internet in order to notify the user, on his smartphone, of the arrival of visitors, but Xiaomi also has the good taste to provide a small chime to plug into the house.

Video feedback and motion detection

In addition to sending notifications, this doorbell can also film visitors. It is for these purposes equipped with a 3 megapixel sensor which allows it to deliver images with a definition slightly higher than Full HD, with a field of vision of 180°.

Wherever he is, the user can thus see who is in front of his door, while answering thanks to the integrated microphone and loudspeaker. In addition, infrared vision is planned for the night, and Xiaomi adds a PIR sensor to allow the Smart Doorbell 3 to detect movement without draining the battery too much. It can thus film and inform the user in the event of activity in front of the house, without being operated manually. To limit alerts, the doorbell also offers human shape recognition, but not vehicle recognition or package detection.

Xiaomi's Smart Doorbell 3

In short, the Smart Doorbell 3 should offer fairly standard features. It is rather from its price that the (good) surprise should come, as often with Xiaomi. If it has not yet been stopped for the French market, a representative told us that it should be around 100 €. It should also be noted that a free storage space should be offered in the cloud (in the absence of a microSD port). The launch is scheduled before the end of the year, without further details for the moment.
