Xilam animation: Carbon footprint less than half of the sector

(CercleFinance.com) – Xilam Animation recently revealed the results of its first carbon assessment, which shows a footprint per employee almost half that of the sector.

The independent studio for the production and distribution of animated programs indicates that its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reached 1,673 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) across all scopes 1, 2 and 3 in 2022, i.e. 3.9 tCO2 per employee.

According to Greenly, the service provider behind this carbon assessment, the group’s carbon footprint per employee is less than half (-49%) of the median for companies in the cultural and creative industries, i.e. 8 .02 tCO2e per employee for the sector median.

According to the report, the purchase of services, particularly from service providers, is by far the largest emitter of greenhouse gases with 40% of emissions.

Energy comes next, with 13% of total emissions, of which 85% comes from electricity, while the food and drinks category represents 12% of total emissions, mainly linked to employee meals.

Digital (Web services, SaaS, licenses and cloud servers) generated 11% of total emissions.

‘The results of this approach demonstrate that the company is already very ‘green’ with regard to the audiovisual services sector, but also that it still has plenty of room for maneuver to continue to reduce its footprint,’ underlined its CEO, Marc du Pontavice.
