XO Kitty: why Lara Jean and Peter are not in the Netflix series?

Fans were waiting for only one thing when watching XO Kitty, the spin-off of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before: seeing Lara Jean and Peter again on screen…

It’s a successful bet for Netflix with XO Kitty, the spin-off series from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, centered on Lara Jean’s (Lana Condor) little sister. It is currently one of the most viewed programs on the platform and offers very nice reviews.

In these 10 episodes, our heroine (Anna Cathcart) flies to Korea hoping to find out more about her mother and meet her pen pal/boyfriend, Dae (Choi Min-Yong).

If XO Kitty succeeds in emancipating itself from the films To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, fans of Jenny Han’s books have only one regret: that Lara Jean and Peter do not appear in the series, where they are only mentioned.

And yet, it could have made sense: the films highlight the sorority of Song Covey and it is Kitty who had a determining role in the love life of Lara Jean. Remember, she’s the one who decides to send the letters in the first part…

Jenny Han, who participated in the writing of XO Kitty, explained this choice in an interview :

We all fell in love with Lara Jean and her story. The best gift I could give Kitty was to let her live her life, without being in the shadow of her two sisters. And Lana and Noah [Condor et Centineo, ndlr] were not available with their other projects“.

Lana Condor and Noah Centineo are not the only ones absent from the spin-off since even the actress who plays her other sister, Margot (Janel Parrish), does not appear there even though her name is also mentioned. XO Kitty only features his father (John Corbett) and his wife (Sarayu Blue) in the first episode.

If Netflix decides to renew XO Kitty for a season 2, nothing tells us that Lara Jean and Peter, who are in university, will not make a small surprise appearance…
