Xpeng Motors opens orders for its P5 in Northern Europe

Already present in Norway, Xpeng Motors is about to enter the Swedish, Danish and Dutch markets. For the occasion, it is with the P5, a competing sedan of the Tesla Model 3, that the Chinese manufacturer is continuing its European breakthrough.

Automaker Xpeng Motors is one of many Chinese brands that have ventured into Europe, along with Nio, Tang, BYD, MG Motor, Weltmeister and Hongqi. Norway, an oil and gas exporting country, wants to become the first in the world to ban the sale of thermal vehicles on its territory, and thus be the champion of zero emissions. In fact, it has become the ideal laboratory for any car manufacturer wishing to launch into electric vehicles, despite a tight market of 5 million inhabitants.

It was in December 2020 that Xpeng Motors landed in the land of the fjords with the G3, an electric SUV. It will be followed by the P7, an electric sedan, available in RWD Super Long Range and 4WD High Performance versions, offered from 44,000 and 50,000 euros.

Today, Xpeng Motors wishes to expand into Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands, where its European headquarters have been located since 2021. A second showroom — after the one in Norway — has opened its doors in Amsterdam.

For this new offensive, the Chinese manufacturer has decided to open the order books with the P5, an electric sedan competing with the Tesla Model 3. This will be equipped with a battery with a capacity of 66 kWh for an autonomy of 465 km (WLTP cycle), as well as a Combo CCS socket, not originally present. Also, the P5 will be compatible”vehicle-to-grid” (V2G), making it possible to charge and power other electrical equipment.

Like the Chinese version, the P5 will be equipped with the in-house semi-autonomous driving system called Xpilot 2.5 and Xmart OS infotainment integrating a so-called intelligent voice assistant with a 15.6-inch (diagonal) touchscreen in portrait mode 39.62 cm). As for the digital instrument cluster, it is 12.3 inches (31.24 cm diagonal).

Question tariffs, the prices differ according to the taxes and customs duties in force. Thus, the entrance ticket is 380,000 NOK (around €37,280) in Norway, €48,000 in the Netherlands, 390,000 DKK (around €52,455) in Denmark and 550,000 SEK (around €54,310) in Sweden.

Even if the priority remains the German market, the question is to know when Xpeng Motors will come to France, like its little comrades MG Motors, Aiways and Seres whose success is starting to be felt.
