Xperia 5 IV and 1 IV: Sony joins the race to roll out Android 13

If Sony is omnipresent on the smartphone market, of which it is one of the main manufacturers of photo sensors, it is now discreet as a manufacturer of terminals. Its catalog has focused on its encrypted Xperia series, of which the Xperia 1 IV and the even newer Xperia 5 IV are the latest ambassadors.

The Japanese brand announces via its social networks the imminent deployment of Android 13 on the two aforementioned smartphones, specifying that they will benefit from “its latest features“, without detailing the content. Although Sony does not provide an exact date of deployment, we can hope that it will take place in the coming days. On the other hand, it is clear that the entire Xperia 2022 range is not affected. , since the Xperia 10 IV, the least expensive of the range, which offers good value for money, is not yet mentioned to date.It should nevertheless benefit from a later update, Sony having assured us during from its presentation that it would benefit from two years of OS updates, like the other terminals in the range. We can hope that the 2021 models (Xperia 1, 5 and 10 III) will join them later.

A still rare update

With this announcement, Sony joins the still very closed club of manufacturers who have entered the world of Android 13. In the wake of Google and its Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, Samsung has initiated the deployment of an update including One UI 5 on its Galaxy S22, while OxygenOS 13 arrived on the OnePlus 10 Pro a few weeks ago. Realme has just joined this short list, with its GT 2 Pro.
