During a podcast with Pokimane, the famous xQc streamer revealed that he had lost a huge sum over the past month while openly admitting his “addiction” to gambling.
On May 1, Twitch giants xQc and Pokimane reunited on the streamer’s channel where they had a 4-hour chat during which xQc revealed that in April he had lost $1.85 million due to of money games.
Revealing they have serious issues with gambling, xQc and Pokimane took on the gambling meta that currently dominates Twitch.
Pokimane started with a relatively innocuous question: “Would you have as much fun playing if you did it offline rather than live?Which led to xQc openly reiterating how he views gambling. “Yes, I’m addicted… I play every day.”
This isn’t the first time xQc has spoken openly about his gaming habits. He once said, “Every game I play, I put money in.”
After revealing how often he gambles, xQc went on to reveal the extent of the sums he bets.”I lost 1.85 million last month.” did he declare.
The two streamers then got into a debate about the ethics of gambling, especially in the public sphere and Pokimane directly derided xQc’s choices arguing: “When you stream yourself playing, you have a negative impact on your viewers.”
Continuing his reasoning, Pokimane made a heavier distinction between gambling and taking money to advertise gambling to viewers. “When it comes to gambling advertising, it’s literally taking money from your viewers.”
Clarifying that he was not defending the moral implications of live or non-live gambling, xQc replied: “It’s a bad thing, I agree.”
Mixing gambling with other vices such as alcohol, for example, he then put forward the following idea: “I think you shouldn’t drink excessively, and you shouldn’t advertise alcohol live, I think that’s bad and yet I still do.”
xQc then drew attention to the general ideas of how streamers take advantage of their viewers saying: “It’s like getting paid for a game that you know sucks. You know it’s bad, but you do it anyway.”
Diving again into the moral position that xQc finds himself in, Pokimane posed the following question: “Do you still do sponsored gambling streams?”
And directly, the streamer confirmed that it does not take any partnership for gambling. “I only play offline.”
“I’m in a bad place.” he explains to the fans, before concluding by giving his point of view on why gambling attracts viewers: “I think people just like to see money being spent.“
