Bobby Thandi, CEO of XR Gamesstressed that these job cuts were aimed at ensuring the long-term viability of the company in the face of current challenges in the virtual reality market. This growing sector is experiencing fluctuations, partly due to uneven adoption of immersive technologies by the general public, but also to increased competition between studios. The company thus follows in the footsteps of other players in the VR industry, such as nDreamswhich recently made similar layoffs (17.5% of payroll).

Despite these adjustments, XR Games continues to collaborate on major projects, including a partnership with Sony for the development of the game Starship Troopers: Continuuma title expected soon in the world of VR. This project with Sony demonstrates the company’s desire to maintain its position in the industry, while pursuing ambitious collaborations. The job cuts have not been detailed in terms of departments affected, although speculation has pointed to cuts to development and production teams.

The restructuring of XR Games also reflects a broader trend in the video game industry, particularly in virtual reality, where the balance between innovation and economic viability proves delicate. The company has not yet communicated on the precise reorientation of its future projects nor on the future of the affected employees.but it remains optimistic about its ability to deliver immersive gaming experiences in a competitive market environment.
