  • HMD Global has introduced the Nokia XR21.
  • The slogan is: “Ready for the adventures of life”.
  • The outdoor smartphone is available now and should be able to withstand falls from great heights.

Forgot your hammer while camping? Just pry something out? This used to be done with cellphones! Anyone who has ever had a Nokia 3310 will remember the never-ending battery life, but most importantly the sturdy body. That has forgiven everything.

Nokia is no longer the Nokia it used to be, HMD Global now holds the rights to the brand name and has long since brought the Nokia 3310 back to us. In 2017, there was real hype about the feature phone, which has long since flattened out.

The term “3310” is not actually mentioned once in connection with the presentation of the new outdoor smartphone Nokia XR21, but of course it is always present. The novelty is made of recycled aluminum and is certified according to the MIL-STD-810H and IP69K standards. Means: The mobile phone should survive falls from a height of 1.80 meters without damage, heavy rain and one or the other dive anyway.

The manufacturer gives a three-year guarantee on this. In addition, there is a one-year screen replacement guarantee and four years of security updates for the installed Android OS.

The case is obviously robust, and with a weight of 231 grams it is also quite heavy; but when it comes to battery life, you have to accept compromises compared to the 3310. Nokia promises at least two full days for the XR21 before the cell phone has to be plugged in.
