Almost five years after XXXTentacion’s death, a jury has found three men guilty of the rapper’s murder.

About five years ago, US rapper XXXTentacion (1998-2018) was killed in a robbery at the age of just 20. After more than 27 hours of deliberations spanning eight days, a Florida state jury found three men guilty of first degree murder, as reported by the New York Times.

Altercation in front of a motorcycle dealer and a fatal shot

XXXTentacion, real name Jahseh Onfroy, was mugged in the summer of 2018 after visiting a motorcycle dealership in the town of Deerfield Beach. Surveillance video played in the courtroom showed an SUV blocking the rapper’s BMW, followed by an altercation with two masked attackers, who escaped with $50,000. Onfroy was shot and succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.

The two attackers were therefore a 28-year-old who fired the fatal shot and a 24-year-old man. A 26-year-old was the getaway driver at the time. All three men now face life imprisonment. The prosecutor did not ask for a death penalty.

The death of XXXTentacion shook the hip-hop world in 2018. He was known to a wider audience with the song “Look at Me!” became known with his albums “17” and “?” he was able to secure second or first place in the charts in the USA. The dismay at the murder had even led to that grieving fans according to media reports briefly shut down parts of Los Angeles.
