The first of two “XY solved” issues runs on Wednesday evening. The “Aktenzeichen XY… Unsolved” spin-off is about “murderous conflicts”.

What happened after the criminal cases were broadcast in the public investigation program “Aktenzeichen XY… Unsolved” (since 1967, ZDF)? How did investigators and the public prosecutor track down the perpetrators? The spin-off of the program “XY solved” has been investigating these questions since last August. Two consecutive special editions are now coming up.

They will again be moderated by Sven Voss (46), who made his debut in the summer of 2022 with the first season of the True Crime series. At that time, the four 45-minute episodes were each shown on Friday evenings, now there are two double episodes in prime time. It starts with “XY solved: murderous conflicts” on Wednesday (5 July, 8:15 p.m.).

In the show, Voss talks about the actions, investigations, setbacks, solutions, arrests and convictions of the murderers. At locations relevant to the crime, the moderator talks to the detectives and prosecutors involved about the difficult investigations into two particularly complex cases.

A dead man with no name

The first case is about a naked, disfigured male body that was found in late 1996 in a disused gravel pit in Kleve on the lower Lower Rhine. The complicated case held the Police in suspense for 25 years, because for years it was not clear who the victim was. After the case was taken up again by the cold case unit at the LKA North Rhine-Westphalia, a murderer was caught and convicted…

Sven Voss also talks to the former head of the murder commission responsible at the time about “the possibilities and limits of forensics, the role of gut feeling in investigations and perseverance in difficult murder cases”.

And the broadcaster also revealed one thing in advance: “The ‘XY’ viewers were not entirely uninvolved in the clarification of the crime.”

Deadly Freedom

According to the broadcaster, the second case is about a 35-year-old Yazidi from Iraq who leads “a hard life full of violence, rejection and contempt” in Germany. She manages to escape, but suddenly the mother of six disappears and the police suspect a crime. However, there is no body and no witnesses…

With the help of the responsible investigator, Sven Voss explains how the case was nevertheless managed to be solved. An expert report on the culture and way of thinking of traditional Yazidis played an important role in the murder trial of the perpetrators. Voss also talks to the author about the case.

Another spin off

Another new episode “XY solved”, then on “Blurred tracks” will be broadcast next Wednesday (July 12), also at 8:15 p.m. The next regular “Aktenzeichen XY … Unsolved” issue will be moderated by Rudi Cerne (64) live on July 26th.
