A lawyer by training, the new President of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet is the first woman to access the perch. But the former overseas minister was not always a politician. Find out who her husband is.
It’s official, Yael Braun-PivetMinister for Overseas France, has just been elected President of the National Assembly this Tuesday, June 28, as announced in particular by Minister Olivier Véran. This LREM executive, who had already run for the presidency of the hemicycle before retracting to support his predecessor Richard Ferrand, has not always had a career in politics. Contrary to what one might think, Yaël Braun-Pivet, who will henceforth lead the Assembly’s debates, second woman elected to the Law Commission under the Fifth Republic, was only a deputy for Yvelines from 2017. Previously, the mother of five children was considering a career at the Paris Bar. Indeed, Yaël Braun-Pivet was a lawyer. A criminal lawyer who founded her own firm in 2003, before knowing an upheaval which would change his life.
Her husband, Vianney, executive at L’Oréal, announces to him that he is transferred to Taiwan. The young woman, at the time the mother of three children, agreed to follow him and put his career on hold. There followed several years spent abroad during which the couple had two other children. In Japan, Yaël Braun-Pivet discovered politics by becoming socialist party treasurer in Tokyo. Back in France in 2012, the former criminal lawyer decided to work locally with her “access to justice” network, in order to offer legal advice and free consultations in reception centers in Yvelines. In 2017, she ran for the legislative elections and won the constituency under the label of the LREM party.
Yaël Braun-Pivet to her husband: “we have always supported each other”
In this new life, her husband and children play a valuable role. As she said in the columns of Marie Claire, Yaël Braun-Pivet met her husband in high school first class : “We have always accompanied, supported. […] Upon our return, he too respected my choices. He came to my first public meeting when I got into politics.“, in particular entrusted the one who will have remained Overseas Minister 36 days. On his finger,the union of [sa] deceased grandmother“, she confessed, a jewel that gives her “strength and courage“. At the time, on his desk, a cup offered by his daughter stamped with a “Mom dear that I love“, she revealed again. The elected 51-year-old may skip meals during the day, she does not forget to take care of the man she loves: “Before I was an MP, my husband brought me breakfast in bed. Since I was elected and president of the commission, it is I who bring him his, I leave before him“, she explained to Marie Claire. Yaël Braun-Pivet was elected after a second round at the Palais Bourbon.
