This new unit claims to be lighter and more powerful than the hugely popular PWseries ST launched in 2018, and promises to have been designed to meet the needs of European e-bike manufacturers.
Producing a maximum torque of 75Nm, the new Yamaha PWseries S2 drive unit is 7% more powerful than the PWseries ST, while weighing just 2.85kg on the scale, 16% less than the previous model.
According to the manufacturer, the reduced size of the PWseries S2 drive unit will allow Yamaha partners to design Sport and Trail model frames with a clean and minimalist look, with shorter chainstays, which can potentially increase stiffness. overall for greater handling and better rear wheel traction.

In order to achieve Yamaha’s accelerated objective of carbon neutrality by 2050, this new engine will be produced in the MBK Industrie factory, 100% owned by the brand and located in Saint-Quentin, France.
