Writer and director Yann Moix was sentenced on appeal for defaming his brother Alexandre, whom he called “very, very closeof the far right, according to a judgment of which AFP obtained a copy on Tuesday. Released at first instance in this case in November 2021, Yann Moix was ordered by the Paris Court of Appeal, on October 13, to pay 1,000 euros in damages, and 3,000 euros for the plaintiff’s legal costs.
Alexandre Moix, 49, reproached his brother, 54, for various remarks made during a television program on C8 in November 2019. The court retained two of them of a defamatory nature: “My brother was very, very close to neo-Nazi groups”, and “It was he, Alexandre Moix, who was close to far-right groups.”

The two men harbor a very stubborn resentment that dates back to childhood. Each accuses the other of damaging his reputation through violent verbal attacks. Alexandre Moix has always denied having had any political activity. Yann Moix, on the other hand, had to recognize anti-Semitic writings dating back to the early 1990s, which resurfaced in the summer of 2019.
Yann Moix, who published the novel in August Paris, did not appear at either hearing. After Orleans in 2019, where the novelist recounted having suffered abuse from his parents, Alexandre Moix had published an open letter in which he denounced a web of lies. “I suffered 20 years of abuse and humiliation of rare violence on his part. The very ones he describes in his novel, lending them to our parents“, he wrote.
