Yannick Alléno (The 10 favorite dishes): this strong sequence of his son Antoine that he wanted to keep

Where did this idea for Top 10 come from?

RAPHAEL MARCHAL: The idea for this ranking was born a year and a half ago. I was told about it. And here is the program that had been imagined. Another, devoted to desserts, will be broadcast by the end of the year. Historically, C8 is not a channel that is interested in cooking. That’s what I was told when I arrived on William Leymergie’s show five years ago. I always intervene there twice a week in reports where I talk about the products. Vincent Pujol, the program director, has always said that if one day C8 did something on this theme, it would be with TV Only, which produces Very very good on Paris Premiere.

How was Yannick Alléno chosen to co-host the show?

We needed a chef who was not identified as a speaker on another channel, but known despite everything. Yannick Alléno said yes straight away. It was an experience he wanted to have. He had already participated in Top chef as a guest but not as a juror. And he did well: he was comfortable, funny, very caring with everyone. In this program, there is a lot of information, mischief and gluttony.

What are the mechanics of the show?

We discover the results of a survey. All regions are represented, especially those in the East. So, with Yannick, we are there to tell the story of the dish. And in this ranking, there are surprises! We thought couscous or sauerkraut would come out on top, but that’s not the case.

In this program shot in March, there is the testimony of Antoine Alléno, the son of Yannick, who died on May 8, mowed down by a driver in Paris. What is the context of this sequence?

Yannick wanted to keep it, as a tribute to his son. The idea was to get to know him by the way his relatives look at him. He certainly has the image of a three-starred chef, but with this program, we discover the man he is.

Did you keep in touch with him after filming the show?

Yes of course. He was incredibly strong in speaking out on the very day of his death… They didn’t have the same approach to cooking, but Yannick speaks of Antoine with pride. A feeling that is also heard when he talks about his other son, Thomas.
