Yannick Noah is the man with 100 lives. As the 2023 edition of Roland-Garros begins this Sunday, May 28, we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of his victory at Porte d’Auteuil. He still remains, to this day, the last tricolor winner of the French Open. For the occasion, Closer invites you to rediscover, in pictures, the career of Yannick Noah, from tennis player to singer, including political activist and village chief.

In the 1980s, Yannick Noah was a magnificent tennis player. Beyond his unforgettable victory at Roland-Garros in 1983, he also became the third player in the world (best ranking for a French player) and won a total of 23 titles, again a record. In the 1990s, he went from player to coach but always with as much success, winning the Davis Cup with the France team, twice, in 1991 and 1996. The 1990s also marked his arrival in music as a what a singer. In total, Yannick Noah has 12 albums on his discography, which includes very big hits like The Lionesses, The voice of the wise, Angela or Citizens trees.

Yannick Noah: from committed socialist to village chief

Alongside his careers as a tennis player and singer, Yannick Noah is also a committed man. Openly on the left, he notably actively participated in the 2012 presidential election by supporting Ségolène Royal. In recent years, he has been fighting against global warming. Since 2017 and the death of his father, a former professional footballer, he has also been the chief of the village of Etoudi, 5,000 inhabitants, in Cameroon.
