Yannick Noah: what he relies on to “hold on mentally”

The singer is the sponsor of this charity evening at the Olympia with Christophe Willem, Keen’V, Claudio Capéo, Black M, Selah Sue and Joyce Jonathan, mobilized to raise public awareness of mental illnesses. Psychodon, the show, to see Thursday July 7 at 9:15 p.m. on C8.

This is your fourth participation in this concert in favor of the Psychodon*. What explains this loyalty?

YANNICK NOAH: It was clear that when I first signed up it wasn’t a ‘one shot’. People need to be made aware of these diseases. And as long as they want me as godfather, the old man is there! We have all, at one time or another, been touched by these diseases, through a friend or someone in our family. We must be able to talk about it and remind people that there are solutions.

As a former top athlete, do you confirm that the mind is of paramount importance?

When you hear about an athlete: “He lost because he had no morale”, it’s true. To solve these problems, there are professionals, more and more efficient. When we have a toothache, we go to the dentist. There, you don’t have to wait to make an appointment. Plan ahead to avoid getting sick.

What is your role as a sponsor? Are you going to sing?

Sing, yes, I do what I can. I am above all a transmitter, I serve to highlight the work of the volunteers of the association.

You interpret Metis as well as the first single from your new album, Back to Africa, available in the fall. It seems to reconnect with your style of twenty years ago…

Yes, I’m working with it again Robert Goldman and Jacques Venuso. It’s a return to my artistic family. It’s what I rely on to hold on… mentally. But I also wanted to reconnect with my African roots. After fifty years of singing The Marseillaise with pride, often winning, I needed to find Cameroon.

Can your career as an athlete, singer and committed man be inspiring for the new generation?

I often get feedback from people who tell me that I have had an impact on their lives, whether through my work or through what I do in the voluntary sector. I may have changed the lives of three, four, 10, 100 or 1,000 people… I don’t know. In any case, I want to be useful.
