YB in the semifinals – Young Boys celebrate a 5-0 victory against Thun – Sport

  • YB clearly wins 5-0 in the cup quarter-finals in Thun.
  • The Thun keep up well after the early 0: 1.
  • The other quarter-final pairings are: Sion-Lugano, St.Gallen-Basel and Rotkreuz-Servette

5:0 is a clear result – but the clear YB victory is also okay on the whole. Raphael Wicky’s team dominated FC Thun in the second half. A double strike after the break was the key to the victory.

First Cedric Itten headed the ball into the net in the 64th minute after a rehearsed corner ball variation to make it 2-0, before only two minutes later substitute Filip Ugrinic scored the 3-0 with a nice low shot after a poor clearance attempt by Thun.

Even after the 3:0, the Bernese continued to power. Christian Fassnacht ran the ball into the penalty area in the 76th minute and launched Fabian Rieder there. This passed unselfishly back and Fassnacht had no problems inserting it.

The Thuners with coach Mauro Lustrinelli were knocked out at that point. So it was not surprising that Sandro Lauper made it 5-0 in the 83rd minute. Loris Benito placed the ball in the penalty area with his heel in an exemplary manner.

Thun did well

In the first half, the clear defeat had not yet become apparent. Although YB took the lead in the 5th minute after a spotless counterattack by Rieder, Thun was more than just an equal opponent.

At times, Thun had more time in the game and bad luck too: Leonardo Bertone locked the ball into the post from around eleven yards. And if the box didn’t help, YB also had a wide-awake goalkeeper in Anthony Racioppi, who parried brilliantly against Bertone. All in all it was a used evening for Thun in the Bern Derby.
