IIt is enough to type “heroically dead” in a search engine to see them falling in heavy rain, these soldiers killed in Ukraine. Not a Russian region, not a provincial town is spared from the daily litany of condolences – not to be found in the national or Moscow press, which carefully hides the losses. They flourish in local cabbage leaves and blogs, where the slightest funeral is used as a pretext to sound the patriotic trumpets, without ever getting tired, even after four months of war and thousands of corpses returned home. Everywhere, the same guards of honor, brass bands, skewers of veterans, portraits of the “hero” and tremolos of local officials.
