For many “Yellowstone” fans, Kevin Costner was certainly the decisive reason to give the western series a chance. If a movie star like Costner suddenly wants to be in a show, it must be good! But Costner’s interest in “Yellowstone” waned over time, he wanted to be in front of the camera less often than John Dutton.
The behind-the-scenes disagreements not only meant that only the first half of season 5 could be filmed and aired so far, Paramount even canceled the series after season 5. So with six more episodes to go, with or without Costner, Yellowstone will be over forever – at least in a way.
A return of Kevin Costner as John Dutton is no longer to be expected after the cancellation of “Yellowstone”, at least Costner can now devote himself to his dream project, but Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” universe is growing and thriving, every spin-off so far has been a Success and further series are planned.
The upcoming spin-off starring Matthew McConaughey could even be a direct continuation of the story of “Yellowstone” and thus provide all the other cast members from the series with new, long-term employment.
