Production on the second part of the fifth and final season of “Yellowstone” begins. Finally.
Yellowstone fans can finally catch their breath. After months of waiting, procrastination and declarations from both sides on the conflicts between production and Kevin Costner, the series will be able to conclude.
We learn via Deadline that production on the second half of the fifth and final season is underway in Montana, according to a release from Paramount Network. As previously announced, the series, which has been on hiatus since January 2023, is expected to return for the final episodes in November.
Yellowstone tells the story of the Dutton family who control the largest cattle ranch in the United States. Between shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds and hard-won respect, the ranch is in constant conflict with those around it – a growing town, an Indian reservation and America’s first national park.
Kevin Costner back?
Kevin Costner, who left the series last year and plays the lead role of John Dutton, is currently in Cannes where his film Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1, had its world premiere. He is currently filming Chapter 3 of Horizon. At a press conference in Cannes, Costner said he took a break to go to Cannes and was returning to continue filming.
Kevin Costner told Deadline in an interview last week that he was open to the idea of reprising his character John Dutton for the final episodes. “I think they should do what they want. Am I ready to come back? I was never in a position to tell them what to do. I can only do what I can do.“He also clarified that he had not seen the final scripts.”I am not involved“, did he declare.
“I wish I could do it, but we didn’t… I thought I was going to do seven seasons, but we’re at five” he told Entertainment Tonight last month, before adding: “So how is this going to happen? Maybe it will work. Maybe it will come my way again. If so and I feel really comfortable, I would love to do it.“
As of now, it unfortunately appears that John Dutton will not be part of the final round of episodes.
