Yellowstone: More bad blood on set! Legal dispute between series creator Taylor Sheridan and Rip actor Cole Hauser

YELLOWSTONE

It’s not just between Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner that things are tense. The “Yellowstone” creator is now suing Rip actor Cole Hauser’s coffee company.

  • The fun ends with coffee! At least that’s what “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan thinks.
  • His coffee company “Bosque Ranch” is now facing competition from Rip actor Cole Hauser.
  • Did Hauser’s Free Rein coffee steal the Bosque Ranch logo?

Cole Hauser, who can be seen in “Yellowstone” as fan favorite Rip, has been building a second base with his own coffee company “Free Rein” since October 2023 – and is immediately in legal trouble. “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan has now sued “Free Rein” for trademark infringement, unfair competition and false advertising.

The problem: Sheridan has also been in the coffee business since June 2023. The logo of his “Bosque Ranch” coffee, in which the letters B and R merge, looks very similar to the logo of “Free Rein”. Not a coincidence, according to People, according to Sheridan and his lawyers.

There can only be one!

The lawsuit states:

Neither Hauser nor defendants sought or received permission or approval from Sheridan or Bosque Ranch to use a mark confusingly similar to the BR mark on virtually identical goods.

Of course, both companies also clearly advertise their product as coffee made by cowboys for cowboys, so Hauser’s “Free Reign” coffee should be understood as an “allusion to the rough spirit of the West.” Sheridan doesn’t like the fact that there are now two coffee companies with a “Yellowstone” connection.

It will probably take a while before the legal dispute can be resolved, but this conflict is certainly creating a bad mood on the set of “Yellowstone.” The last episodes of season 5 are scheduled to be filmed and broadcast in 2024, after which we probably won’t see Hauser again in any “Yellowstone” spin-offs.
