Kevin Costner revealed that his father advised him against filming “Yellowstone”, in his eyes a “cursed” series.
Actors are right not to always listen to their parents’ advice. This is particularly the case of Kevin Costner, the legendary American actor now the hero of Yellowstone on Paramount+.
Returning to the forefront thanks to the success of the western series, the 68-year-old star could have never appeared in the program if he had decided to follow his father’s advice.
In an interview given in 2022 to the magazine ParadeKevin Costner reveals that before joining the cast of Yellowstone, his father strongly advised him to refuse the role, notably describing this series as “evil”:
You’re going to lose your audience, boy. It’s an evil series. They will turn away from you. Mark my words: this is evil.
During the interview, Kevin Costner does not reveal the reasons which pushed his father to make such comments. By accepting this main role in the television series, against the advice of his father, the American actor once again became a leading star and put an end to several years of wandering in Hollywood.
But while the series allowed him to return to success (and notably win a Golden Globe for Best Actor), disputes between the star and showrunner Taylor Sheridan led to the premature end of the program. Thus, the story of Yellowstone will end at the end of the second part of season 5, expected for spring 2024.
That doesn’t matter, since Kevin Costner is preparing the filming of a ten-hour western fresco entitled Horizon (divided into three parts). This project marks his great return to directing, twenty years after his last film Open Range and more than thirty years after his masterpiece Dances with Wolves (winner of seven Oscars, including Best Film and Best Director).
