The speech was expected, more than a week after the appointment of Gabriel Attal to Matignon. This Tuesday evening, the President of the Republic held a press conference at the Élysée. Among the subjects discussed: school, which concentrated the majority of presidential announcements.
The Head of State notably announced that the uniform will be tested in 100 establishments with a possible generalization in 2026. A graduation ceremony will be set up at the middle school from this year and the school at the primary school, the students will learn the Marseillaise.
The National Rally steps up to the plate
The president also unveiled measures on the theme of birth rate, but also on the theme of security. Too little, however, for the oppositions on the right and the left, in particular for the National Rally, the target of numerous attacks by Emmanuel Macron during the conference.
“We are squarely in denial and the old tricks of leftism since he explained to us that the riots were poor victims of idleness, I repeat his words, mother of all vices. I am absolutely appalled by the president’s endless logorrhea”, annoys, at the microphone of Europe 1, the RN deputy Jean-Philippe Tanguy. For her part, Marine Le Pen denounced on the social network Twitter “a major meeting with the Nation which has transformed into yet another endless chatter.”
The left denounces an authoritarian drift
On the right, Éric Ciotti remains suspicious and asks the President of the Republic for concrete evidence on immigration. “Our proposals are there,” says the Republican boss. For its part, the left denounces an authoritarian drift by Emmanuel Macron. “After appointing the Sarkozy government, it rehashes Sarkozy’s ideas. When we see what he proposes on medical franchises, Sarkozy wanted it. When we see what he proposes on immigration, that’s what made Sarkozy even worse”, alarms the socialist deputy, Arthur Delaporte.
“A speech from a reactionary technocrat. Emmanuel Macron has avoided all the subjects that interest the French: increased electricity, ecological crisis, housing, precariousness. Instead, a lunar and paternalistic general policy speech. Creepy, really. And nerdy”, for her part, concludes the national secretary of EELV, Marine Tondelier.
