On this Valentine’s Day, heartbreaking news was communicated by the studio Rabbit & Bear Studios on the page Kickstarter of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. Yoshitaka Murayamacreator of the iconic license Suikoden when he worked at Konamifounder of the studio as well as director and producer of this role-playing game expected in the spring, died on February 6, 2024 at the age of 55 following complications of an illness. He will therefore unfortunately never see the realization of his latest game to the public.

Here’s the studio’s full statement, which we translated:

Hello everyone,

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we must inform you that the writer and director of Rabbit & Bear Studios, Yoshitaka Murayama, passed away on February 6 following a long-term illness.

Murayama began this journey of creating Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes in 2020 thanks to the support of his very loving fans on Kickstarter. Throughout the game’s three years of development, it was always the passion of his fans that continued to guide his creative vision and motivate him to put his all into the project.

His hard work on Eiyuden Chronicle as a screenwriter was finished, but as colleagues and friends, it saddens us to know that he won’t be able to see his fans’ reactions.

However, even with these feelings, we must accept the reality that he is no longer with us and continue to advance his dream by releasing Eiyuden Chronicle to the world.

We want to uphold his legacy and vision with this game, and know that he would have wanted the rich world he created with Eiyuden Chronicle to live on.

His family sincerely appreciates your prayers and support, but asks for privacy and that no flowers, mail or other offerings be sent.

We’ll have more information on organizational changes to Rabbit & Bear as well as changes to some Kickstarter rewards soon.

For now, we appreciate your continued support.

As a reminder, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is expected on April 23, 2024 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch and PC.
