If you want to download apps with an Android cell phone, you usually use the Google PlayStore. We reveal clever tips and tricks that you can use to do more than just download apps on Google’s app marketplace.
In the Google PlayStore you will find more than 2.5 million different apps.
Most users only use the PlayStore to download specific apps or update existing ones. Google offers its users numerous additional functions with which you can use the application even better.
1. Get app costs refunded
Paid apps don’t always deliver what they promise in the app store. Usually you only find out after the purchase whether the application is worthwhile or whether you would rather have saved the money.
If you bought a pig in a poke, the money is not gone immediately. Because in the PlayStore you can make use of the right of exchange – but you have to be quick.
Within 48 hours you can return apps purchased in the web and mobile version and get your money back. To do this, proceed as follows:
- To do this, tap the menu in the Play Store and go to Account > Purchase history.
- In the order, choose from the options “Request a refund” or “Report a problem”.
- Fill out the form stating that you want a refund.
- You will then receive an email within 15 minutes to four working days informing you whether the refund will be granted.
You can find out more about this on the Google support page.
2. Auto updates for specific apps deactivate
When you’re on the go, it’s particularly annoying when your phone automatically updates apps. Because that costs data volume unnecessarily and quickly drives up your monthly mobile phone bill.
Open the Google Play application and tap the three lines icon or your Google account profile picture in the top left corner.
Now go to Settings > General > Automatically update apps. Choose from the three different options and save data.

3. Password protect downloads
If you often let your smartphone out of your hands and don’t want any nasty surprises on your credit account or credit card statement, you can protect the installation of new apps with a password.
Password protection is enabled by going to Settings > Password > Authentication. Under “Authentication required” you can now determine the password and whether the mode should apply always or only for 30 minutes.
4. Save apps to wish list
Found a cool app but currently don’t have any credit or data to download it? Then you can easily save the apps in your personal wish list.
On the app’s download page, you can tap the three dots at the top right of the screen and add it to the wishlist. To access it later, go to the “My Wishlist” tab via the menu.
5. Find indie games and apps
The “Indie Corner” is a special page in the PlayStore where you can find games and apps from smaller and independent development studios.
You can’t get to the indie corner directly via the PlayStore, but you can get to the homepage via this link or a simple Google search.
