People draw inspiration from the social network Pinterest for their daily projects, including planning events and their everyday outfits. Search results generally display the most relevant pins, even if the models look nothing like the user. Thanks to artificial intelligence, Pinterest search results are about to become much more personalized.
Pinterest announced “Body Type Ranges,” a new AI-powered tool that lets women choose the body type they want to appear in their search results when searching for outfits or items of marriage.
To test, open the Pinterest app, click the search icon, type a query related to outfits or weddings in the search bar, click body types at the top of the search results and select the body category that best represents you.

The body type filtering technology is patent pending by Pinterest. It sorts more than 3.5 billion images on the platform based on shape, size and silhouette to provide personalized results.
“Pinterest is a visual discovery platform and we want users to be able to see themselves reflected in their search results,” said Sabrina Ellis, Pinterest Chief Product Officer.
Sabrina Ellis added that the company has already seen positive user engagement with the feature. People who use this feature have a 66% higher engagement rate per session on Pinterest than people who haven’t used the tool.
Even more customization tools
Although the feature is currently limited to weddings and women’s wear, Pinterest plans to roll it out more widely later this year, including men’s fashion.
This feature builds on other Pinterest tools, such as skin tone ranges and hair type search, which allow users to choose their skin tone and hair texture when searching for beauty inspirations, such as makeup and hairstyles.
