Like other platforms, Instagram now allows you to deactivate the read receipt of a private message.
As you probably know, our favorite messaging platforms (Messenger, WhatsApp) all have a system allowing you to see if a message has been distributed… and if it has been seen. On WhatsApp, you can even view the precise time at which the recipient of a message read it. On Instagram, we are currently testing a function allowing you to hide this same read receipt.
You will no longer be able to “drop a view” on Instagram
It’s official, Instagram should soon allow users to deactivate read receipts in their private messaging. A great thing for anyone who doesn’t like their interlocutor knowing whether they have read a message or not. By deactivating the read receipt, the small “Seen” message will no longer be displayed to the sender, as is currently the case.
In this way, it will not be possible for the sender to know whether or not the sent message has been read by its recipient. For some, more than a simple functionality, it is a privacy option, which can be very (very) useful.
A gradual deployment?
“ We’ve heard your feedback, so we’re starting to test a feature that lets you turn off receipts. Soon, people will be able to choose whether or not their interlocutors know that they have read their message “, said Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram.
The latter also shared a preview of the functionality in question, which will be accessible from the “Privacy and Security” menu.
The feature is currently being tested, and could be rolled out to the general public soon, once the testing phase is complete.
Remember that it has been possible for several years now to deactivate reading confirmation on WhatsApp, another application from the Meta group.
