This is a measure that will reassure night bus users: from now on, it will be possible to ask to get off between two stops.
On the night of Tuesday, October 20, 2020 to Wednesday, October 21, 2020, the deputies voted in committee for a text that authorizes the stopping at the request of night buses, and this, at the national level. According to decree 2020-1276 of October 19, 2020, it will now be possible to ask the driver to get off the bus, even if it is not the official stop. This decision was taken to bring women who feel insecure on public transport closer to home.
Until now, bus drivers were prohibited from dropping off a passenger between two stops. But, despite this new decree, nothing will force drivers to accept this request: "Any descent device on demand is previously defined by the organizing authority, either within the framework of the agreement concluded with the operator of the transport service, or by the specifications of the control, specifying the line or portion line as well as the time slot during the night period where the device applies ", we read in the decree.
In January 2018, a survey by the National Observatory on Delinquency and Criminal Responses revealed that 51% of women are afraid in public transport, especially at night. This new text could therefore allow many users to get off as close as possible to their homes, even before the bus arrives at the stop fixed by the line.
