Google Pixel users can now set their search engine of choice from the home screen. Currently, the feature is only available in Europe.

Since its entry into force on March 6, the Digital Markets Regulation (DMA) has forced Tech giants to implement numerous changes. After Apple, which has already made a major wave of modifications to the iPhone, Google has recently revealed the list of changes that will soon occur within its ecosystem. If Chrome and Android are obviously affected by these upheavals, Web search will now allow you to configure the search engine of your choice on the home screen of your Pixel.

Google Pixel: you can now set the search engine of your choice

This is one of the main new features introduced in European Pixel phones: the possibility of replacing Google’s default search engine with a third-party browser. The bottom search bar on the home screen will now display your new search engine.

On X.com, a user recently told Mishaal Rahman about the deployment of a new “Search Engine” page housed in the Pixel Launcher settings. As its name suggests, this allows you to modify the search engine used on the home screen. The objective of this approach is obviously to comply with the DMA.

A change which therefore only concerns Europe

At the beginning of March, the American giant announced that it would offer users additional choice screens when configuring their device. The advent of such a change will finally allow Pixel owners to configure the search engine they prefer. Therefore, you will now be able to search from your home screen with Bing, DuckDuckGo, Brave, or even Ecosia.

Remember that Apple now allows iPhone owners to configure a default browser other than Safari. A change introduced with iOS 17.4, which also does the business of the Brave browser, whose number of downloads has literally exploded.

It is important to note that this feature is only available on Google Pixels. At present, there is no indication whether it will land on other Android smartphones. According to our colleagues atAndroid Policeunless a law requires it, there is very little chance that the firm will offer this search engine configuration page outside the European Union.
