Need a little break between two videos? It is now possible to play more than 75 mini-games on Youtubethis is what the video streaming platform has just announced.

This new feature, called Integrated Games (Playable in English), has been in the Web giant’s little papers for many months. In November, it was deployed for subscribers to YouTube’s premium service, offering them access to several mini-games available for free on the platform. It is now extended to all users.

Where to find the Integrated Games?

From chess games to crosswords to popular mobile titles like Angry Birds Showdown! Or Cut the Rope, more than 75 games are now available directly on the Android, iOS and desktop versions of YouTube. To access it, simply go to the Explore tab on the left of the interface. It is likely that some users do not yet have access to the games, specifies the platform, as the system is currently being deployed.

Players have the ability to save their progress and track their high scores. YouTube also allows them to leave comments, in order to take their feedback into account and improve its new offering. Google, its parent company, has already tried cloud gaming with Stadia, resulting in a dismal failure.

Boost engagement

If YouTube has not detailed the reasons for its immersion in the gaming sector, this initiative most certainly aims to strengthen the engagement of its users. Video games indeed have the capacity to attract Internet users, the acquisition of Wordle by the New York Times in 2022 is the perfect example. As of December 2023, the majority of time spent in the media’s official apps was spent on its games, according to figures from the data analytics company Yipit Data.

Netflix has also launched into video games in order to diversify its activities. Recently, it was LinkedIn’s turn to take the plunge by introducing three mini-games on its social network. The platform confirmed that this approach was intended to stimulate engagement.

For the moment, YouTube has not specified whether advertisements will subsequently be integrated into its experience, but it is a safe bet that this is the case.
