you can use it in a few months

The emoji “ dark circles» is it a reflection of our times? It probably represents quite well the reaction of certain people to yet another news story surrounding artificial intelligence. Fortunately, other small events happen from time to time: this is the case with the seven new emojis presented by the Unicode Consortium.

Seven new proposed emojis that could soon arrive: there is the dark circles emoji

The Unicode Consortium is, as a reminder, a grouping of many players, especially companies, who are trying to agree on the characters to integrate into our different devices: computers, smartphones, tablets. Among the characters we use every day, there are also emojis, which allow us to punctuate our messages. This May 21, the consortium published a list of seven new emojis which are entering beta.

This list could be supplemented by other new emojis if the consortium deems it necessary. This may change if developers, or even users, provide feedback.

The current list features these emojis:

  • face with bags under the eyes;
  • digital print ;
  • leafless tree;
  • root vegetable (it’s a beet);
  • harp;
  • shovel ;
  • splash.

The emoji with bags under the eyes had already been proposed in 2018, but was ultimately not integrated. Let us add that an eighth emoji is part of the beta: it is in fact the flag of Sark. It is an island in the Channel which depends on the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a state dependent on the British Crown. This flag is composed of a red St. George’s cross on a white background (like the flag of England) with two gold lions at the top left (which is the flag of Normandy).

When will we be able to use these new emojis?

The end of the beta of version 16 of Unicode is scheduled for July 2. Subsequently, each manufacturer will be able to apply its own graphic charter on the emojis: the consortium only gives a guideline, recallsNumerama. Apple could integrate it into iOS 18.1 or 18.2 for example. For its part, Google could get started with Android 15, the stable version of which will arrive in a few months.

In any case, you will most likely have to wait until the end of the year to be able to take advantage of it and send it to your friends as soon as you feel tired. In the meantime, there is the sleeping while snoring emoji😴.
