You could soon taste the best of the Porsche Taycan

The Porsche Taycan is the fastest production electric car on the Nürburgring, and the Stuttgart firm is now offering its customers a pack with the specific settings of the Taycan that made it possible to establish this record on the famous German justice of the peace.

Is the war over between Tesla and Porsche over the Nürburgring lap record in the production vehicle category? Certainly not, but let’s say that Porsche regained a small lead.

For the Taycan, it’s a return to the top, since the Turbo S version had already set a record in 2019 with a time of 7 minutes and 42 seconds. In 2021, Tesla, with its 1020 hp Model S Plaid, came to dethrone the Stuttgart firm with a time of 7 minutes and 35 seconds. But last August, Porsche reclaimed its throne on the Nürburgring.

A Taycan Turbo S driven by driver Lars Kern covered the 20.8 km German track in 7 minutes and 33 seconds, beating the record previously set by the Tesla Model S Plaid by two seconds. The tour is available in video below.

Substantial chassis improvements

But how could the Taycan improve its lap time by nearly nine seconds with the same car it did three years ago? The secret lies in the new Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control package (PDCC). Available as an option for around 13,000 euros, even on the “base” models (currently only in Germany), this package includes a significant upgrade to Porsche 4D Chassis Control, new 21-inch alloy wheels and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres.

For now, this pack is not yet available in Francebut according to Coach, this could come as an option if customer demand is there. It remains to be seen whether the customers of this type of car are aficionados circuit, especially since other cars certainly lend themselves better to it at Porsche.

It’s not the fastest electric on the Nürburgring

The Taycan Turbo S record is not the absolute record among electric cars on the German track. Indeed, the times achieved by the Nio EP9 and the Volkswagen ID.R are significantly lower, but these models are not considered as production cars. The ID.R is a unique concept car that should not give rise to a production model, while the Chinese supercar was only made in 16 units.

These two monsters simply achieved canon times. Equipped with four electric motors delivering a total of 1360 hp, the Nio EP9 lapped the Nordshleife in 6:45.90 in May 2017, before being beaten by the Volkswagen in June 2019.

If the Chinese supercar plays the card of power in abundance, the ID.R prefers to focus on lightness and aerodynamics, since with 680 hp for only 1,100 kg, it completed its lap in 6:05.336, that’s nearly 40 seconds faster than the Nio and with half the power.

Test of the Porsche Taycan: mature and exciting

In the wake of Tesla, inevitably, the arrival of Porsche in the electric market promises great things. The Taycan looks like the concept car that predefined it and its technology with a 2-speed gearbox makes it…
