You didn’t expect it, here comes the Coca-Cola smartphone

Realme and Coca-Cola are teaming up to release a special edition of a smartphone from the Chinese brand. It would probably be a Realme 10 with the famous Soda brand. Enough to afford great publicity to the Indian public, the first market for the young company.

We have already seen smartphone manufacturers use a Coca-Cola can as a reference for the colorimetry of their photo sensors, but a phone with the famous brand of soda on its back is a first.

A first rendering, which you can observe at the top of this article, had been made public recently (via GSM Arena), but we didn’t know what brand of phone was behind it. In view of the latest posts on the Realme Twitter account, doubt is no longer allowed.

It reads “Something is sparkling at #realme” with a link to an event page to the Realme India store. We see a visual that states “Realme is ready to get really refreshing”, as well as a poster mixing Realmeow, the manufacturer’s layer, with a bottle of Coke.

Image refreshed

The choice of a partnership with an already installed smartphone brand is hardly surprising. It’s hard to imagine Coca-Cola getting their hands dirty themselves, it’s better to go through a company whose job it is already. The operation obviously has a promotional purpose, the Soda brand is undoubtedly trying to make people forget its four consecutive rankings among the biggest plastic polluters in the world.

Remember that if Realme keeps a modest place as the fifth brand with us, the Chinese firm is a real hit on the Indian market, where it is competing for third place among the biggest sellers of smartphones with sales around 15% share of market by quarter according to Counterpoint. This represents more than 6 million sales in 2022 for example. Joining forces with this young brand with a dynamic image is therefore interesting for an old sweet drink lascar who has been operating since 1886.

And the smartphone itself then? Given its design, it is strongly reminiscent of the Realme 10 or the Realme 10 Pro. It should be a special edition of the entry-level smartphone. There is little chance that this phone will be marketed in Europe. Also, we don’t promise to test it (which is a polite way of saying we won’t test it).
