Notice to veterans of Windows, the mythical 3D Pinball Space Cadet can now be playable on any android device !
Thanks to the joint effort of enthusiasts, this legendary game made a remarkable entrance on mobile devices and proved to be relatively simple to install.
The Legend of the Space Cadet
Originally released on Windows 95, 3D Pinball (originally developed in 1995 by Maxis, it doesn’t make us any younger) made young and old happy even on Windows XP, before getting lost in the limbo of space. On the Microsoft side, there is no plan to report to recall the Space Cadet and reintegrate this anthology game.
Fortunately, a community of modders managed, via reverse engineering, to transform the game code into a readable format. After extracting the essence of the game and using the translation of its code, developers managed to bring back 3D Pinball to life on different platforms like Nintendo consoles.
Now, and thanks to the efforts of Federico Matteoni and another developer, it is even possible to find the game on Android. And the procedure to follow to replay this nugget could not be simpler, without having to go through an emulator.
How to install and play it on Android
To make this port, Federico Matteoni actually recovered a first port of 3D Pinball on Android, but patched it to turn it into an APK, much easier to install. To top it off, this new version of the port incorporates new features, such as displayable pitch buttons, and various improvements.
To find this cult game on your Android device, you simply need to download the latest APK available via the dedicated Github page (cited in source below) and install it. For those who are not used to going through anything other than the Play Store to install an application, the procedure is simple:
- Go to the settings, then to the Security section;
- Enable unknown sources;
- Find the APK on your phone (in Downloads, if you got it from here, or through a file explorer, if you transferred it from a computer via a USB connection);
- Launch the APK as an executable on Windows and let yourself be guided.
Once these steps have been taken, you should easily (re)discover this truly legendary game in the palm of your hand. Remember, however, to disable unknown sources after installation, for security.
