“You have to see Avatar in a movie theatre”: James Cameron defends the big screen experience

Before discovering Avatar 2 on December 14, the public will be able to (re) see the first opus, which will be released in cinemas on September 21. And director James Cameron intends to convince the public.

Get ready to embark on a new journey on Pandora from September 21 in theaters! The first Avatar, released in 2009, will be back in theaters in a brand new remastered version.

The movie will be enhanced with stunning 4K picture and HDR sound, as well as in a wide selection of immersive 2D and 3D formats.

For the occasion, director James Cameron hopes that “the youngest spectators will discover it at the cinema”. Indeed, according to the filmmaker, the younger generations have seen the film via streaming or blu-ray and have not had the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the world of Pandora.

“Even though they think they’ve seen Avatar, they haven’t really enjoyed it. I was pleasantly surprised, not only by how well the film aged, but also how beautiful it was in its remastered version”hammered the stage director into the microphone of THR.

The director then recalled that things had changed radically since 2009. With the advent of streaming, “the world is turning to the easy access of works at home”he noted.

The public is hungry for cinema.

However, James Cameron is delighted with a resurgence of the cinema experience, although the Covid pandemic has passed through it, causing a sharp drop in cinema attendance.

“Audiences are hungry for cinema. Things are slowly recovering. Part of the decline is due to the shortage of high-profile titles that can make people want to move on. But Avatar is the epitome of this phenomenon. It’s the kind of movie you have to see in a movie theatre.”chants the filmmaker.

It’s the type of movie you need to see in a movie theater.

Avatar hits theaters on September 21. As for the second part, La Voie de l’eau, it will land on December 14th.

We will find there Jake Sully and Neytiri have become parents. The plot takes place ten years after the events told in the original feature film.

Their idyllic life, close to nature, is threatened when the Resources Development Administration, a dangerous non-governmental organization, returns to Pandora.

Forced to leave their natural habitat, Jake and his family travel to the reefs, where they believe they will find asylum. But they come across a clan, the Metkayina, with customs different from theirs.
